Journey Matthews is a mural artist, woodworker, and fabricator based in Bloomington, Indiana, working professionally as Journey Hallows.
Journey began painting and designing murals at a young age, as early as 2005. Since 2018, Journey has created large-scale murals that celebrate community, transform everyday spaces, and make memorable experiences for the people who live, work, and visit them.
Journey’s Bloomington work includes a mural along the B-Line Trail, commissions for Hunter Properties at Midtown Lofts and the Millennium Apartments fitness center, and a public mural in the Trades District outside Soma Coffee. The wider body of work includes murals in Indianapolis, business signage, interior wall murals, and fabricated metal signage for local businesses.
Working across paint, wood, and metal has shaped Journey’s approach to design: careful composition, respect for materials, and work built to last. Whether painting a mural, designing a sign, or building something by hand, the goal is the same—to create work that feels welcoming, timeless, and connected to the people and place it was made for.
